Sixthfin launches T&E Controls to analyse and control 100% of expense claims
London, 6 October 2026 – Sixthfin, a European fintech specialising in risk detection and financial process optimisation, is launching T&E Controls (Travel & Expense Controls), its new solution for Finance, Audit and Internal Control departments.
Designed to complement existing expense management tools, it analyses 100% of expense claims over time and reconciles them with the general ledger. The goal is to detect duplicates, recurring anomalies, high risk behaviours and approval failures that can slip past transaction-by-transaction controls.
Expense reports: automation does not guarantee effective controls
Expense management tools have largely automated the verification of an expense at the time it is entered, as well as the line-manager approval process. But some weaknesses only appear at the scale of the overall system. For example: submission or accounting anomalies, rubber-stamp approvals, recurring delegations or ignored alerts can go unnoticed when expenses are reviewed one transaction at a time.
Yet these weaknesses are the hardest to detect. Expense reports make up a high-volume of claims. Often hundreds of expenses each month, usually for small individual amounts. When carried out manually, these controls are limited to spot checks on small samples, with no guarantee of covering high-risk situations.
For Finance and Control departments, the challenge is now to simply measure the real effectiveness of existing control framework across all expenses. This is where T&E Controls comes in. The solution complements transactional tools without replacing them, by automatically analysing all expenses over several months, across employees and entities. Control is no longer constrained by sampling: AI helps to surface recurring patterns and the exceptions that require investigation.
T&E Controls cross-checks expenses, approvals and accounting
For example, during an analysis of expense reports, T&E Controls identified several expense claims reimbursed to different employees involving the same merchant, the same amount and the same location, all on the same day. Taken individually, each expense appeared compliant and had been approved. It was the cross-analysis that revealed a pattern of potential duplicates that had not emerged during transactional control.
The same logic applies to the approval workflow and to accounting. T&E Controls can in particular identify recurring delegations, unaddressed alerts or unusual approval delays. Reconciliation with accounting data also brings to light expense reports missing from the books, entries with no equivalent in the expense management tool, or discrepancies between approved and recorded amounts.
From spot checks to full-population analysis
“Expense control is evolving, and checking occasionally that an expense complies with the rules is no longer enough. Today, it is about making sure the system works over time. For Finance, Audit and Internal Control departments, this means being able to measure the effectiveness of controls, spot behavioural anomalies, and rely on all the data available rather than on simple samples,” explains Jean-Marc Allouët, President of Sixthfin.
With T&E Controls, Sixthfin aims to support the shift from a transaction-focused control approach to a more continuous view of expenses, approvals and their accounting treatment.
